    Ovsyannikov Michail Viktorovich | 22 Jan 2007

Former driver of the Tambov businessman Sergey Gorin, in organization of whose crime Alexey Pichugin was admitted guilty.

Michail Ovsyannikov was a target in the investigation in the second Alexey Pichugins case as one of the defendants. According to the General Prosecutors Office, Michail Ovsyannikov drove Vladimir Shapiro, Gennady Tsygelnik and Eugeny Reshetnikov to the house of the head of the Moscow trade company «Foenix» Valentina Korneeva. There, Shapiro shot down Valentina Korneeva near the doors of her flat. In the course of the preliminary investigation Michail Ovsyannikov admitted guilt, and also that Korneevas assassination was committed in the interest of the «Yukos» top-management. However, at the court session on the 17-th of July, 2006 the defendant refused this evidence. He, in particular, informed: «All the evidence against Khodorkovsky, Nevzlin and Pichugin was given by me under the pressure of the investigation». According to Ovsyannikov, the senior investigator of special cases of the General Prosecutors Office Smirnov, and also the investigator Bannikov exerted a psychological and physical pressure upon him. The representatives of the investigation, according to the defendant, stated that «this is a monarchic case, and it is possible not to be taken in their hand only cooperating with them». Ovsyannikov also said: «I was intimidated, I was threatened, they promised to imprison me for not less than 18 years» for organization of the crimes. The investigator Bannikov, according to Ovsyannikov, notified him that «everything is under the influence of the Public Prosecutors Office» and that «all the same it will win at court».

Also, rendering medical assistance to Michail Ovsyannikov, according to him, depended on giving evidence, necessary to the investigation (Ovsynnikov suffers from hypertension and hydronephrosis of a kidney, at that, his second kidney is extracted). Besides, during the prolonged interrogations, there refused to lead him to the toilet at his request.

Besides, Michail Ovsyannikov informed the court, that he had never been acquainted with Alexey Pichugin and had seen him only once  when he drove a cake at his wedding day.

Ovsyannikov also said at court that in the notes of his evidence there had been discrepancies with what he told in the course of the interrogations. That fact that he signed such protocols, Ovsyannikov accounts for the apprehension for his health because of the danger from the direction of the public prosecutors office.

After 1998 Ovssyannikov, according to him, didnt work for Gorin and practically ceased contacts with him. The judge of the Moscow City Court Vladimir Usov didnt consider Ovsyannikovs evidence, which he gave at court, convincing, he returned him guilty and sentenced to 10-year term of imprisonment (the public prosecutor Kamil Kashaev asked for him a 20-year term of imprisonment). On the 21-st of February 2007 the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation remained this sentence valid.

At the third Alexey Pichugins trial Michail Ovsyannikov was interrogated as a witness for the prosecution, but didnt give evidence against him, repeated what he had said at the court session on the 17-th of July 2006.
